Chapter 9
Edward Quan ·
On the high-speed train, Jiang Zhixu messaged Ji Shu.
[Shushu, guess where I am. Three months apart—you must have missed me. I've got a surprise for you.]
[Still not answering? Still angry?]
[I know I was wrong. It won't happen again, okay? Wen Ran and I are completely finished. From now on, I'm yours. Only yours.]
## Chapter 12
He sent message after message. None received a reply.
Her phone was always switched off.
He scrolled up through their old chat. Their last conversation was still the one from the night before National Day.
[Plans for tomorrow? Miss me? Want to see me?]
[Been doing experiments late every night. I'm exhausted. Don't want to do anything over the break. Just lie in my dorm.]
She had sent a sticker.
[My poor hardworking boyfriend! Wish I could pop up in front of you and give you a shoulder massage!]
[Silly. We're so far apart. I couldn't put you through that journey.]
[I'll come and see you in winter break.]
But he had never intended to go to her.
Every holiday, he had been with Wen Ran. Even as he sent that message, he had been on a high-speed train to Nancheng.
The more he thought about it, the more he despised himself. He wanted to slap his own face.
What the hell had he been thinking? How could he have hurt someone so good?
After eight hours, the train finally reached Jiangcheng. He hurried onto the metro. More than an hour later, he arrived at Jiang University.
In four years of long-distance dating, this was the first time he had come to see her in the city where she lived.
The thought of seeing her filled him with excitement.
Graduating students were everywhere. He stopped a young woman.
“Excuse me, where's the medical school?”
“The medical school? Straight ahead.”
Her cheeks flushed at his handsome face.
“Can I add you on WeChat?”
“Sorry. I have a girlfriend.”
“Oh. Okay.”
She left, deflated.
Smiling, Jiang Zhixu headed on.
Soon he reached the medical school. Students were taking graduation photos, people milling everywhere, but he couldn't find Ji Shu.
“Excuse me. Do you know Ji Shu?”
“Who are you?”
By chance, he had found her roommates. They gathered around him, curious about the handsome stranger.
“Don't tell me you're Ji Shu's ex?”
“I'm her boyfriend. Jiang Zhixu.”
“Holy shit. It is her ex. The cheating scumbag.”
“Scumbag?”
He frowned. He hadn't expected her to go around telling everyone about their private affairs.
“Shushu and I had a misunderstanding. I've come to see her. Can you tell me where she is?”
“No idea.”
One roommate rolled her eyes. The admiration in her gaze had turned entirely to disgust.
“You look decent enough. Shame about the things you do.”
Another couldn't hold back.
“You broke up. What are you here for? Not a word for three months, and now you show up? Finished with the homewrecker, so you've come back for our Shushu?”
His expression darkened.
“I haven't got time for this. I just want to know where she is!”
“Not here, anyway.”
“If you don't even know where she is, she clearly doesn't want you to know. We certainly aren't telling you.”
“I'll ask your professor.”
Frantic now, he went straight to a lecturer taking photographs nearby.
“Hello, Professor. Do you know where Ji Shu is? I'm her boyfriend.”
“Oh, Ji Shu's boyfriend?”
The professor turned and smiled.
“Didn't she tell you? She's gone abroad.”
## Chapter 13
“What… what did you say?”
Jiang Zhixu stood stunned, wondering if he'd heard correctly.
“Abroad? When?”
“Three months ago.”
The professor explained.
“We had places for an overseas exchange. Ji Shu's our best medical student, so naturally we wanted to send her. But she said she couldn't bear to leave her boyfriend and decided to stay in China. Then, three months ago, she suddenly told me she wanted to go. I submitted her name. I took her to the airport myself. You're her boyfriend. How could you not know?”
How could he have known?
