May We Never Meet Again

Chapter 14

Edward Quan ·

“Enough, old man. Don't dirty your hands. Once Wen Ran wakes up, we'll do what needs doing and leave. Neither of them is any good.”

When the operation was over, the doctor came out.

“Who's the patient's family?”

“This is her boyfriend.”

Before, Mrs. Ji would have said she was Wen Ran's mother.

Now, she only wanted to sever the connection. These two had hurt her daughter together. She wanted nothing to do with either of them.

“We couldn't save the baby,” the doctor said. “She's very weak now. She mustn't be subjected to any further distress. Her family needs to be careful.”

“Thank you, doctor.”

Jiang Zhixu nodded, then looked at Mrs. Ji.

“Auntie…”

“She's your girlfriend. Look after her. As for Shushu, since you've broken up, don't come to our home again. And keep Wen Ran away, too. I don't want her sullying our doorstep.”

With that, the couple left without looking back.

On the way home, Mrs. Ji called her daughter.

Ji Shu had just finished class. Seeing her mother's call, she answered with a bright smile.

“Mom? What's up?”

“Shushu, is everything all right over there?”

Her mother's voice caught. Thinking she missed her, Ji Shu hurried to reassure her.

“Everything's great. I'm eating well, studying hard. Don't worry.”

“Good. That's good.”

“Mom, is there something you want to tell me?”

After a long hesitation, her mother finally told her what had happened.

“Wen Ran came to our place.”

## Chapter 19

“Did she?”

Ji Shu frowned, her expression darkening.

“We're not friends anymore. If she comes again, tell her to leave.”

“Is it because of Zhixu? He cheated on you with Wen Ran, didn't he?”

Ji Shu was startled.

“How did you know? Did she tell you?”

“Zhixu came over today, too. He accidentally pushed her down the stairs. She lost the baby.”

“What?”

Ji Shu wondered if she'd misheard.

“A baby? They were having a baby?”

“You didn't know? I must've been blind, Shushu. I used to say what a good boy he was. He's an animal in human skin. He even said he wanted you to forgive him. Whatever he does, don't soften. Don't forgive him.”

“Don't worry. I won't. Once I've made up my mind, I don't turn back.”

“Good. I'll let you go, then.”

After the call, Ji Shu's feelings were tangled.

Only a few days ago, he had been waiting outside her door, begging forgiveness. And all along, he and Wen Ran had even had a child between them.

She went to sit by the river. Tears fell, one after another.

Once, she had liked him so much she would steal glances at his profile in class.

He was handsome. Girls in their class often gathered to talk about him. Whenever she heard them wondering what kind of woman a boy with his looks and grades would fall for, she secretly smiled.

They were already together.

They had kept it quiet. Apart from Wen Ran, no one knew.

After the university entrance exams, someone had confessed to him.

In front of everyone, he had taken Ji Shu's hand.

“I have a girlfriend. Ji Shu's my girlfriend.”

The whole hall had erupted.

“Our class beauty and heartthrob! A match made in heaven!”

“Invite me to the wedding!”

“I want to be a groomsman!”

“But if you end up marrying other people, don't invite us!”

Who would have thought those words would come true?

They really would marry other people.

“What are you thinking about?”

Lin Qingyu appeared beside her, holding an umbrella over her head.

“So absorbed you haven't even noticed the rain.”

Only then, seeing the ripples spreading across the lake, did she realize it was raining.

“Nothing. Thank you.”

“Your ex? He hasn't come to bother you today.”

He came straight to the point.

“If he's no good, you don't need to keep thinking about him.”

She laughed.

“How do you know he's no good?”

“Four years at university, and he never visited you once. What would you call that?”

Ji Shu stared.

“How do you know he never visited?”

“What if I said I've noticed you for a long time? Whenever our two classes had lectures together, I sat behind you, off to one side. I heard you talking. You said you had a boyfriend. Your roommate said he'd never once come to see you.”

She looked at him in disbelief.

She had never imagined the medical school's star student had been quietly paying attention to her.
