Whose Baby Is It?

Chapter 2

Edward Quan ·

“I don’t remember why we broke up. But if you had me and still entered religious life, there can only be one reason.”

I leaned close to his ear, my voice suggestive.

“Husband, it’s not your fault if you can’t perform. I love your soul. Even if you can’t, I won’t leave you. Why become a monk?

“Don’t worry. My constitution is special. Come back to me, and I’ll make sure all of high society knows you can perform!”

Why else would a man so young take religious vows?

Clearly, the “equipment” wasn’t up to standard. Religious practice was a cover.

Meeting me was his salvation.

Our rabbit clan conceived easily.

Even if he had a problem, I was confident I could work a miracle and get pregnant quickly.

I gave him a confident look.

He didn’t react as expected.

He simply watched me.

As though he could see through me, right into the deepest part.

After a long while, he asked, “You really have lost your memory?”

“Yes.” I nodded obediently. “I only remember you.”

He smiled.

His face was like jade, his smile like parting clouds.

Unlike Shen Guannan’s forceful presence, he had the purity of a clear breeze and a bright moon. It made you want to pull him down from his pedestal.

Now that “Buddha” chuckled and reached toward me.

“My wife understands me so well. Only, my health isn’t quite up to it at present. Let’s not tell high society about that.”

Wait.

What had he called me?

His wife?

He was actually playing along?

The System caught on immediately and went wild.

【Sis! He called you his wife! You’re moving so fast. You’re a goddess!】

Giddy, I happily accepted the praise.

I’d thought the supposedly desireless Buddhist would be harder to approach.

Who knew he’d be so easy to hook?

I could almost see a hundred million waving at me. I took his arm.

“In that case, why don’t I stay at the temple and practice together with my husband... I mean, join you in a quiet retreat?”

He was about to answer.

My phone rang.

The screen clearly displayed a name.

Shen Guannan.

4

Cold sweat broke out over me. I flipped the phone facedown and watched Shen Yeqing.

I’d been quick.

Surely he hadn’t seen?

“Why not answer, my wife?”

He tilted his head, smiling faintly.

Nothing seemed amiss.

I breathed out and forced a smile.

“Probably spam. Can’t be bothered.”

“How do you know it’s spam if you don’t answer?”

Before he finished, the phone rang again.

Now it was awkward.

Twice in a row. It couldn’t still be spam.

But if I answered, he might see the name “Shen Guannan.”

How would I keep up the amnesia act then?

While I hesitated, Shen Yeqing said calmly, “My wife, a Buddhist sanctuary requires quiet.”

Yes!

Quiet!

The perfect excuse!

As though reprieved, I rejected the call and switched off the phone.

“Husband, now nobody can disturb our retreat.”

Smiling sweetly, I pulled him into his room.

It was very clean, faintly scented with sandalwood.

That cool fragrance. The solemn atmosphere. A supposedly celibate Buddhist.

The combination set this pervert’s heart stirring.

I wanted to strip him at once and inspect exactly what was wrong with that perfect body...

“Husband...”

I coughed lightly and decided to begin with a little psychological counseling.

“Don’t worry. Even if you... can’t, I won’t look down on you. After all—”

Cool sandalwood and a burning kiss cut me off.

I: “???”

The kiss deepened, his hold tightening until I could barely breathe.

Instinctively, I searched for support and caught his prayer beads.

Clatter!

In the movement, the string snapped. Beads scattered across the floor.

And with them, apparently, went the last thread of his restraint.

“Yingying. I’ve missed you... for so long.”

He lifted me into his arms and gently laid me on the bed.

Wait.

How did he know my name?

Shen Guannan had never introduced us!

A spark of reason flashed through the confusion. Before I could make sense of it, Shen Yeqing removed his robes, revealing a firm, muscular chest.

“Wow...”

Saliva gathered disgracefully at the corner of my mouth.

I forgot everything except staring at that beautiful body.

“What a shame. Someone this perfect, and you... can’t...”

“Can’t?”

He paused, looking at the red marks he had left on my neck with an ambiguous smile.

“Would you like to find out?”

“Why not?”

What followed was a storm.

I was a little boat tossed on enormous waves, rocking without end.

Who had seduced whom?

So the prayer beads were props. The robes were merely a celibate disguise.

Who said this Buddhist couldn’t perform?

He performed all too well.

5

“With talents like that, why on earth become a Buddhist ascetic? I thought you’d renounced desire.”

Afterward, I couldn’t help asking.

Shen Yeqing was silent for a moment. His arms tightened around my waist.

“I haven’t renounced desire. I was saving myself for my wife.

“If you prefer, I’ll stop devoting myself to the Buddha and devote myself to your desires instead.”

That mouth.

He really knew how to sweet-talk me.

I enjoyed it enormously, letting my hands wander over his abs.

Then his tone changed. He looked straight into my eyes.

“My wife, you thought I couldn’t perform. Was your previous experience disappointing?”

I froze.

Honestly, Shen Yeqing and Shen Guannan had different styles, but both were exceptional.

I’d been very well fed.

I couldn’t say that, of course.

“I’ve lost my memory. I don’t remember the past clearly. Wasn’t it always you?”

He wouldn’t let it go.

“Your mind doesn’t remember. What about your body? Was it better before, or today?”

His hold tightened. Clearly, he wasn’t letting me go without an answer.

“Today!”

I cried it out through tears, feeling as though my body would fall apart.

Only then did he release me, satisfied.

The days that followed...

Best not described in detail.

The System switched on its blur filter and didn’t dare look at anything.

Our heavenly days didn’t last long.

One day, after another “storm,” I lay resting on the bed.

A tentative voice sounded inside my head.

【Sis, I’ve been blind for half a month. Can I turn off the blur filter yet?】

If it hadn’t spoken, I might have forgotten it existed.

“Go ahead.”

The System sighed in relief and appeared, looking sallow.

【Sis, Shen Guannan’s lost his mind. He’s been searching for you for over half a month. He’s found out you’re at Qingcheng Temple, and he’s storming over here now.】

I bolted upright, my tired eyes wide.

“Why didn’t you tell me sooner?”

【All I ever see is mist and fog. I can’t see anything...】

“Where is he now?” I asked urgently.
