Chapter 4
Edward Quan ·
“Demand that the school investigate her and revoke this scum’s direct-admission qualification!”
I calmly looked at the insults.
Then I got to work.
First, I uploaded the complete video.
I titled it: 【Full Video from the Day I Left School】
It showed everything from when I packed my last suitcase to when I carried my luggage out of the dormitory building.
The image was clear, and the audio was crisp.
The sharp, nasty words from Lin Miaomiao’s mother, Mr. Wang’s helpless attempts to mediate, and the dorm supervisor standing by as a witness were all exposed in every detail.
At the end of the video, I faced the camera and said clearly, “I’m Chen Yue. Today I packed up all my personal belongings and left school. From this moment on, nothing in that dorm room has anything to do with me.”
Once the video finished uploading, I moved on to the second step: another post.
It was simple—a photo of a calendar.
I circled two dates in red.
One was the day I left school; the other was the day the school distributed the exam admission tickets.
Beneath it, I wrote:
“I left school before the exam tickets were handed out. So tell me: what superpower did I use to steal Lin Miaomiao’s ticket?”
After posting that, I stopped looking at the internet.
I got up from my beach chair, changed into a swimsuit, and walked toward the deep blue sea.
The water was a little cool, but the temperature was just right.
I swam a lap, rinsed off, and lay back down on the chair.
There were dozens of missed calls on my phone. I ignored them all.
When I opened social media, the tide had completely turned.
“Holy crap! What a reversal! That video destroyed her!”
“That woman rummaged through everything herself and now she’s turning around and accusing Chen Yue? What is her face made of?”
“The timeline doesn’t add up! Is this mother lying, or is there just something wrong with her brain?”
“Poor top student. She got bitten by a rabid dog for no reason.”
The comments in Lin Miaomiao’s mother’s livestream had turned into questions and mockery.
“Ma’am, we’ve seen the video. Care to explain?”
“Did your daughter’s exam ticket grow legs and travel into the future so Chen Yue could steal it?”
“Stop crying and go look in the trash. You might find a surprise.”
I smiled.
But that still wasn’t enough.
I dialed 110.
“Hello, I’d like to report someone. They’re spreading rumors about me online and defaming me, seriously infringing on my right to a good reputation.”
Finally, I drafted a third post—the last one I would make that day.
“I’ve reported this to the police. The internet is not beyond the law. The sea view is beautiful. Hope everyone’s having a nice day.”

The police acted faster than I expected.
That very afternoon, I got a call from the local police station.
They told me that officers in my hometown had begun handling the case.
Their colleagues had found Lin Miaomiao’s mother causing a disturbance right outside the exam site and had taken her in for questioning.
At the same time, another team of officers went to our school dormitory.
They found a crumpled exercise book in the dorm’s trash can.
When they opened it, Lin Miaomiao’s exam admission ticket was tucked inside.
By the time the ticket was found, less than half an hour remained before the morning exam ended.
Lin Miaomiao had been disqualified from her first exam because she arrived more than fifteen minutes late.
Mr. Wang sent me the news on WeChat.
His tone was filled with helpless exhaustion.
“Chen Yue, it’s finally over.”
“For Lin Miaomiao, maybe it’s only just beginning,” I messaged back.
He sent a sighing emoji.
“Her mother was suspected of making a false police report, disrupting public order, and defaming you online. She’s been placed in administrative detention for fifteen days. Lin Miaomiao…she collapsed on the spot and is in the hospital now.”
I didn’t reply.
I had expected these consequences long ago.
You reap what you sow.
Lin Miaomiao’s collapse today was the bitter wine she and her mother had brewed together.
In my previous life, they forced me to drink it.
In this life, I merely let them taste what they had made with their own hands.
I closed the chat with Mr. Wang.
I saw that several of my posts had climbed to the top of the trending topics.
