Chapter 15
Edward Quan ·
Before I could seek out those three beasts, they came to our door.
They seemed to have recovered their previous-life memories too.
At last, they understood why this life had gone so badly.
Without a great idiot willing to sacrifice her whole life supporting them, they were living worse than dogs.
Arms folded, I leaned against the doorframe with a contemptuous smile.
I wanted to see how Mo Jinghong would deal with those three wretched attachments from her past lives.
Outwardly, I smiled with perfect ease.
Only I knew my fingertips were digging into my own flesh.
Mo Jinghong, if you showed them even a trace of pity, I would… I would…
I thought furiously for ages and realized I couldn’t think of a way to punish her.
Spank her, perhaps.
No. Her backside was round and firm, lovely to touch.
What if I hurt it?
Wouldn’t I be the one to lose out?
I nearly ground my teeth to pieces.
Mo Jinghong looked at the three creatures kneeling before her.
After a long silence, she suddenly turned toward me.
Caught by her gaze, I felt briefly confused and flustered.
She came over and took my hand.
Then she turned back.
“In this life, I have only one contract beast: Yin Hai. We’ve formed a Heart-Bond Contract. I won’t bind myself to you. Go.”
The Black Dragon blurted anxiously, “A contract can still be broken!”
My face darkened. I swept him with an icy look.
Realizing his mistake, he shrank back.
Mo Jinghong laughed.
“In my previous lives, we formed only the lowest-ranked Alliance Contract. Even then, I never considered breaking it. What makes you think I would break my Heart-Bond Contract with Yin Hai for you?”
“You don’t have to break it. You can form more Heart-Bond Contracts,” the Azure Phoenix reminded her cautiously. “One person can bind several beasts. Having a contract with her doesn’t matter.”
I nearly swallowed that green-feathered sparrow in one bite.
Mo Jinghong caught me first.
I glared at her.
“You’re protecting him? Do you still…?”
Before I finished, she rose onto her toes and silenced me with a kiss.
She soothed me gently.
“Don’t be angry. There’s only you in my heart, Yin Hai.”
Miraculously, my towering anger vanished.
I wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her close.
Her body pressed against mine without a gap. Without a trace of shyness, she braced her hands on my chest, lifted her head, and kissed my chin.
I bent to kiss her soft lips.
We kissed openly, ignoring everyone.
Then the White Qilin’s resentful voice sounded darkly.
“So you sell your body… Mo Jinghong, I despise you. If you have any ability, cultivate and become strong yourself. What’s impressive about using your body to buy a spirit beast?”
Enough.
This time, nothing she said would stop me.
With one furious strike, I knocked all three to the ground.
I planted my foot on the White Qilin’s head and ground it into the earth.
“Don’t make a couple’s intimacy sound filthy, you damned beast.”
Each word came through clenched teeth.
Mo Jinghong rubbed her temples.
“Leave it, Yin Hai. Why bother with him? If he had any brains, he wouldn’t be in this state.”
“Why should I leave it?”
I glared.
“Don’t speak for them again, or I really will be angry!”
She shrugged. “All right. Do what you like with them.”
“Really?” I narrowed my eyes, examining every tiny change in her expression. “You won’t be sad for them?”
She laughed so hard she swayed.
“If they could come all this way, their owner has abandoned them. Even she doesn’t want them. Why should I feel sad?”
At last, the weight lifted from my heart.
Fortunately, she wasn’t hopelessly foolish.
“Fine. I’ll deal with them. Turn around. Don’t look.”
She lowered her lashes and glanced at them one last time.
“Bringing your heads a thousand miles… such a small gift, such deep feeling.”
Her voice was full of contempt and irony.
“Farewell, gentlemen.”
Perhaps because I had finally ended the nightmare of her three lives, Mo Jinghong was especially passionate that night.
I held her hands against the bedding.
“Mo Jinghong, if you have a fifth life…”
“I’ll still choose you,” she answered at once.
I looked deeply into her eyes.
“Really? You don’t want to try another spirit beast?”
“Why would I?”
“There might be one better than me.”
“What does that have to do with me?”
Her gaze held mine lovingly.
“Yin Hai, a fifth life, a sixth… however many come after this, I’ll only ever choose you.”
“Really? Don’t lie.”
She didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
“Why would I lie about this? Since I’ve had you, have I so much as looked at another beast?”
“Hmph. That’s because none of them are as good. Who knows if you might someday meet a better one?”
“How could there be one better than you?”
“Who knows…”
My mother had nine children, after all.
I muttered that silently to myself.
Mo Jinghong slipped her hands free and wrapped her arms around my neck.
“Yin Hai, why are you so insecure? I only like you. Stop imagining things about me. If I said you might meet someone better and fall for them, would that make you happy?”
“I wouldn’t like anyone else!”
“Then there’s your answer.”
She pulled me close.
“Enough talk about people who don’t matter. Don’t you want to eat?”
“Yes.”
“Then go ahead.”
I lowered my head and bit her.
She held me, her fingers slipping deep into my hair.
“Yin Hai… Yin Hai…” Her breathless voice was full of love. “I like… I like it so much…”
Each loving call soothed the ravenous hunger inside me.
How extraordinary.
I kissed her soft lips again.
“I like you too… Mo Jinghong.”
Because of her, this body that had never known fullness in countless ages was finally, utterly satisfied.
